Charlotte’s Web, by E.B. White

charlottes web e b whiteOpening line:
“Where’s Papa going with that ax?”

Mr. Derwood Hunsdale-Talbot’s comments:
Even though phrased as a question, this sentence is a great tell-all for E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. Without reading further, the reader is certain that ‘Papa’ is a nationally ranked competitor in logging sports, specifically the vertical chopping event. And although the issue of his specialty being speed chop or hard hit remains somewhat unclear, that omission is understandable, as it will doubtlessly be used as an important plot device later in the book.
